Surveys Latin American history focusing on the development of political and social structures since the independence movements of the 19th century. Emphasizes Latin phenomenon as caudillismo, indigenismo, the Church and liberation theology, and the revolutionary movements in the 20th century. - MLO 5
- When observing how this course fulfills my MLO 5 requirement we must first look at the description of the course itself. “Surveying Latin American history focusing on the development of political and social structure…” In the course we looked at different countries of Latin America, including how the structure of government flourished in these countries. Emphasizing the 19th century, the course described how the countries fought for their rights and looked at the movements of liberation from the great Spain, considering the conquest and how it affected all Latin American Countries. One other aspect we focused on in this course in particular was seeing the growth of the economy and how the economic boom came about in each country, providing insightful information on the development of both individual countries and the Latin American region as a whole. The moment I realized in which this class fulfilled my cultural knowledge MLO was when looking at Latin America as a whole and seeing how all of these countries truly pick bits and pieces off of one another.
